Apple Hand Pies

It's our hands-on favorite way to eat apple pie!

America loves apple pie...by the slice, of course - but sometimes we get a hankerin' for a hand pie.

Hand pies are personal - you get to eat the whole thing (but you can share if you like). You can add special touches that you fancy, like a spoonful of apricot preserves or dried cranberries.

Not to mention the fact that you get a whole lotta' flaky, buttery pastry in every bite.

In this class, Ken will walk you through all the steps for making these hand-y, scaled-down pies at home.

We'll make buttery hand pie dough from scratch, roll it, and talk about several options for shaping your hand pies.

In addition, we'll prepare Ken's cinnamon-scented diced apple filling; tip: fine dice help prevent the apples from tearing the pastry.

Then we'll put it all together and pop 'em in the oven so we have some oven-fresh specimens to gush over by the end of class.

If that sounds like a delicious way to spend an hour this Sunday afternoon, I hope you'll join us. Not only will you come away with the confidence and know-how to bake these in your own kitchen; you'll have a great time getting to know some of your home baking peers.

See you in class.
